Engineer
At Basepoint Building Automations, we’re driven by innovation, collaboration, and the belief that technology should make buildings — and the people in them — perform at their best.
We are Problem-solvers. Innovators. Builders. Collaborators. Technicians. Engineers. Thinkers. Learners. Leaders. We’re passionate about turning complex systems into simple, sustainable solutions that make a real impact.
We believe in teamwork, continuous learning, challenging projects, and celebrating success together. Sound like you? We’re looking for an Engineer who’s ready to bring their expertise, creativity, and energy to help us engineer what’s next — one building at a time.
The Engineer will be based in either Des Moines, Cedar Rapids or Kansas City to create and maintain system designs for customer projects, working closely with project managers, programmers, sales staff, and field technicians.
As an Engineer, you will interpret construction bid drawings and specifications to develop effective control systems utilizing DDC Controllers, PLCs, and various hardware devices. You’ll succeed in this role if you have a strong technical background, the ability to understand complex systems, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to delivering high-quality designs on time.
What You’ll Do:
- Design control systems: You’ll spend the majority of your time, about 60%, interpreting construction bid drawings, specifications, and scopes to engineer effective systems that meet project goals while staying under budget.
- Maintain documentation: Approximately 30% of your role will involve creating and assembling formal design documentation, while working closely with project managers to coordinate project orientation, information requests, and timelines.
- Industry engagement and site visits: About 10% of your time will be dedicated to staying current on industry trends through participation in trade organizations like ASHRAE and GSX, and occasionally visiting job sites with project managers to gather insights and ensure design effectiveness.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or associate’s degree with relevant design experience.
- Technical expertise with proficiency in CAD or Visio, with a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical blueprints.
- Project experience with the ability to design and engineer control systems for complex projects, utilizing best practices and ensuring proper integration.
- Driver’s License required as you must be able to travel to job sites as needed.
What We Offer:
- Employee-Owned Advantage: Join a 100% employee-owned company—your impact matters, and you share in the success.
- Top-Tier Benefits: Premium medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, 401(k), HSAs/FSAs, and EAP support.
- Learn and Lead: Grow professionally with continuous training and development, supported by our state-of-the-art lab.
- Balance that Works: PTO, sick time, parental leave, volunteer hours, and a culture that values your time.
