We are looking for a Client Consultant to spearhead business development efforts, manage long-term client relationships, and contribute to our continued growth in the Des Moines area.
As a Client Consultant, you will manage a portfolio of both new and existing clients, focusing on a 1–12-month sales cycle and large project values ranging from $25k to $250k. You’ll thrive in this role if you have a background in IT or SaaS or a related field, are comfortable with longer sales cycles, and can demonstrate success in high-pressure environments while balancing both new business development and client relationship management.
What You’ll Do:
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding their facility needs and recommending integrated solutions in building automation, access control, video surveillance, intercoms, and automated entry systems.
- Conduct site visits and consultations to assess client environments and propose service enhancements.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with facility managers, engineers, and contractors.
Sales Development & Client Retention
- Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of service clients, ensuring consistent satisfaction and long-term loyalty.
- Conduct regular account reviews and site visits to assess system performance, identify service needs, and recommend upgrades or enhancements.
- Proactively identify opportunities to expand service agreements, introduce new technologies, or optimize existing systems (e.g., access control, IP cameras, intercoms, automatic doors).
- Maintain detailed records of client interactions, service history, and renewal timelines in CRM to support proactive engagement and retention strategies.
- Collaborate with service and technical teams to ensure timely resolution of client issues and seamless delivery of contracted services.
- Monitor client satisfaction through surveys, feedback loops, and informal check-ins, escalating concerns as needed to ensure resolution.
- Educate clients on new product offerings, software updates, and industry trends that may benefit their operations.
- Track and report on client retention metrics, renewal rates, and upsell performance as part of the weekly sales pipeline report.
Proposal & Presentation Delivery
- Develop and deliver customized proposals and scopes of work that clearly outline system capabilities, integration points, and service benefits.
- Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to ensure proposals are technically sound and aligned with client expectations.
- Create and present solution-focused PowerPoint decks tailored to vertical markets such as schools, retail, energy, and healthcare.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with marketing to develop targeted campaigns and collateral for automation and security solutions.
- Provide weekly updates on sales activities, pipeline status, and client feedback.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure smooth handoff and execution of sold projects, including scope reviews and site meetings.
Who You Are:
- Sales hunter mentality: You are driven by a strong desire to generate new business, with a focus on longer-term sales cycles. You’re a go-getter who thrives on building trust and relationships.
- Background in construction or technical sales: Experience in commercial IT solutions or software sales is preferred, but we are open to those with related backgrounds such as construction, engineering, or AV industry sales.
- Relationship builder: Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, such as CIO, IT Directors, Operations Director, Maintenance Director.
- Entrepreneurial spirit: You possess an entrepreneurial drive and initiative, willing to navigate the challenges of a longer sales cycle and manage complex projects.
- Technical acumen: Comfortable with software like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to create and present compelling business proposals.
What You Bring:
- Proven sales track record: Experience managing a sales pipeline of 1-12 months and successfully closing large deals.
- Construction knowledge (preferred): Knowledge of the IT solutions industry is highly desirable, as it will allow you to build relationships faster.
- Education: Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Relevant sales experience may substitute for formal education.
- Experience in estimating: Ability to develop and present competitive bids.
- Driver's License required: Must be willing to travel locally to meet clients and manage sales territory.
- Strong communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally with clients and partners.
- Drive to succeed: Willingness to fail and learn from mistakes while maintaining a strong focus on financial success.
